Our client, a multi-national commercial group, with its core operations in the Asia Pacific region with a large focus on China, are looking to hire a Head of Compensation & Benefits and HR Services to be based in Hong Kong. The role also offers the opportunity to join the company's HR Leadership programme, which provides future career development through rotations across the company's various commercial businesses.

In this role you will be responsible for planning, developing and ensuring the effective delivery of an integrated and appropriate Compensation & Benefit strategy that directly impacts on the success of the business; enabling the attraction and retention of talent. The business has grown both organically and through acquisition and is very successful in its field. This role reports to the Global Head of HR who is also based in Hong Kong. You will also work closely with Country HR Heads in North Asia as well as in the US to deliver Compensation & Benefit strategy. You will lead a team of 5 within the Compensation & Benefits and HR services function who are also based in Hong Kong.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review, establish and implement an improved services model, including payroll, benefits administration, employee communication, wellness and well-being
  • Research, design and implement competitive benefits programs and monitor external service providers to ensure high delivery standards
  • Facilitate and con-ordinate annual salary review and bonus process
  • Manage and improve end to end China mobility policy and related compensation & benefit processes
  • Provide specific direction and guidance to China Plant HR functions on the application of compensation policies and programs, the formulation if salary and bonus plans, benefits management and talent mobility management
  • Co-ordinate analysis, benchmark studies to support the Global Head of HR as well as the General Managers for the business to make decisions on executive reward
  • Work with HR Heads and business stakeholders to ensure changes to organisation structure and jobs are accurately documented and reflected in Job Architecture and ensure structure is accurately benchmarked
  • HR Compliance: proactively contribute to audit process and establish, implement and monitor professional standards
  • Lead Compensation & Benefit competency and educating local HR teams to deliver these objectives
  • Identify areas of improvement for Compensation & Benefit services, optimising and transforming processes where required that will directly help impact the business

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • 10 years relevant experience in HR with a predominant focus on the Compensation & Benefits specialism
  • Ability to think strategically/commercially and how the wider Compensation & Benefits philosophy will directly impact on the success of the business
  • A strong interest in understanding all different functions across HR and how you can demonstrate the ability to work together to service the HR model
  • M&A experience would be a beneficial but not necessary
  • At least 5 years heading the function or perhaps as a no. 2 from a commerce environment
  • Experience with providing guidance and direction on China Compensation & Benefits (multiple locations)
  • Experience with big data analysis and presentation
  • Candidates will need to have strong problem solving and decision-making capability
  • Ability to drive change, negotiate and influence internal stakeholders
  • Fluency in English, Cantonese and Putonghua
  • Candidates will need to have strong commercial thinking, problem solving and decision-making capability
  • The ability to travel on business when needed (limited)
