New Melbourne Office Launch
Global HR recruitment firm Frazer Jones has opened an office in Melbourne. Former lawyer and HR practitioner, Peter Barber, has joined the firm in Melbourne as an Associate Director to build on the work done from Sydney over the last few years. Peter has a background in HR gained primarily in-house with top tier law firm Blake Dawson where he held a number of generalist and operational HR roles as well as the position of National Graduate Recruitment Manager.
Paul Breslin, Frazer Jones’ Group Manager for the Asia Pacific region, described Peter’s remit as being “to build the Melbourne operation on the basis of the relationship recruitment model which has been very successful for the group in Sydney and the firm’s other offices in the UK. We are HR specialists and there is room for a serious HR specialist in the Melbourne market. Our key points of difference are that we are genuinely interested in our clients’ HR talent management plans and our candidates’ careers; we have global reach, international IP and HR networks; and we pro-actively research the market, connecting top HR talent with the best career opportunities, not just the next job”.
In Peter’s view, “the Melbourne office represents a great opportunity for the business to build on what is already a strong brand in New South Wales. We are dedicated only to the HR specialism and our approach will be to partner with candidates and clients alike with a view to long-term career planning and talent management and not simply transactional, reactive recruitment”.
Peter has previously worked in legal recruitment and prior to entering HR was a lawyer with a leading Australian law firm and with boutique firms in Melbourne and Adelaide. He joined top tier Australian law firm Blake Dawson Waldron (now Blake Dawson) in March 2003 and in the period to his departure from the firm in June 2007 held a number of HR roles with responsibilities across most of the firm’s practice teams. His last role was as the National Graduate Recruitment Manager. During his time with the firm, Peter developed interests and some expertise in coaching methodologies, workforce planning, employee branding and career mapping. He also has a strong interest in doing business in Asia, particularly in China and Japan. He maintains conversational Japanese.
Peter decided to leave Blake Dawson to seek a management role in a non-law firm setting and after spending a number of months back in recruitment was approached to join Frazer Jones to establish the Melbourne office of the HR recruitment brand of the international SR Group partnership. Peter stated, “I am very happy to have joined Frazer Jones, the opportunity to build on the work already done here with clients and candidates is second-to-none”.
